Sidley Austin LLP announced the addition of a new partner to their New York office. Kai Haakon Liekefett will join the office’s Mergers & Acquisitions group and lead their shareholder activism practice in New York. He is joining Sidley from Vinson & Elkins LLP where he founded and led their shareholder activism practice.

Liekefett has over 15 years of experience in corporate law in New York and international places like London, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Germany. He focuses on shareholder activism, especially proxy contests.  In the last two years, Liekefett has been part of over 20 proxy contests, which is more than any other defense attorney in the country. He excels in advising clients on director-election contests, withhold-the-vote campaigns, shareholder opposition to M&A transactions, and other activism campaigns.

Sidley’s co-leader of the global M&A and Private Equity groups, Scott Freeman, said, “Shareholder activism is at record levels, both here in the U.S. and worldwide. Kai’s extensive experience advising large and small-cap companies as well as investors on these matters will be a great resource to our clients.”

Sidley has over 2,000 lawyers working from 20 offices worldwide.
