Allen & Overy lost a valuable member of their team to Gibson Dunn & Crutcher. City arbitration partner Jeffrey Sullivan will join the international arbitration team in Gibson Dunn’s London office.

Sullivan had been with Allen & Overy for over ten years, advancing to partner in 2013 at the magic circle firm. There he developed an expertise in international commercial and investment treaty arbitration as U.S. and U.K. qualified. He advised over 25 investors on eight arbitration claims against Spain regarding their regulations on renewable energy. The claims were worth over £2.2 billion.

Gibson Dunn chairman and managing partner Ken Doran said, “Given the prevalence of investment treaty disputes and the inclusion of arbitration clauses in large commercial transactions and investment ventures, we believe this is an area of increasing importance to our clients.”

Sullivan also spent five years with Foley & Lardner as an associate.

Gibson Dunn has been making a number of strategic moves over the past few months. They will be adding Anna Howell, who was the global energy co-head at Herbert Smith Freehills, to their London office. They also welcomed four partners and one counsel from Ashurst.

Allen & Overy has been more focused on their U.S. presence, adding a three-partner team from Paul Hastings and a former federal prosecutor from white-collar boutique Morvillo.
