O’Melveny Continues Expansion of California Technology Practice with Addition of Capital Markets Specialist

As part of the continuing expansion of its technology practice in California, O’Melveny announced today that top Capital Markets lawyer E. Ryan Coombs will join the firm as a partner in its San Francisco office this month.

Coombs, who comes to O’Melveny from Simpson Thacher’s Palo Alto office, specializes in capital markets transactions for technology companies. He has broad experience advising issuers and investment banks on a variety of transactions, including initial public offerings and other common and preferred equity offerings, debt issuances, SPAC transactions, and PIPEs. Coombs has handled multi-billion-dollar transactions for some of the world’s best-known names in consumer electronics, social media, entertainment, life sciences, health care, and renewable energy.

“Ryan has worked on some of the largest IPOs and capital markets transactions in recent memory, and that experience will benefit our clients, especially as public-market activity continues to accelerate,” said O’Melveny chair Bradley J. Butwin. “Ryan also shares our commitment to excellence, leadership, and citizenship, and we’re thrilled to welcome him to the firm.”

Coombs follows three other California technology partners who joined O’Melveny in July: Brad Finkelstein and Adit Khorana in Silicon Valley, and Daniel Wu in Century City. Coombs will join a Capital Markets team known for coordinating complicated and high-profile deals, taking them from launch through closing. O’Melveny’s Capital Markets practice serves issuers and investment banks on a broad spectrum of transactions in the financial services, biotechnology, retail, technology, entertainment, real estate, and transportation industries.

“Ryan has a long track record in capital markets that will be very valuable to our clients,” said C. Brophy Christensen, co-chair of O’Melveny’s Corporate Department. “He has worked across the table from our Capital Markets lawyers on countless deals, and he has repeatedly impressed us with his legal skills, collaborative style, and dedication to client service.”

Coombs received his J.D., cum laude, from the University of San Francisco in 2009, where he was a member of The University of San Francisco Law Review. He earned his B.S. from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, in 2003.
