A law firm seeks a Patent Agent with 1-6 years of experience for its Chicago, IL office. The candidate will assist attorneys with patent prosecution matters, conduct patent searches, and draft patent applications.

Duties:

  • Conduct patentability searches and analyze prior art to assess the patentability of inventions.
  • Draft and prosecute patent applications before the USPTO.
  • Assist attorneys in preparing responses to Office Actions and other correspondence from the USPTO.
  • Collaborate with inventors and attorneys to understand inventions and draft patent specifications.
  • Manage patent portfolios and provide strategic guidance on patent prosecution matters.
  • Stay updated on developments in patent law and USPTO procedures.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific or engineering field.
  • Previous experience working as a Patent Agent, preferably with 1-6 years of experience.
  • Registered to practice before the USPTO.
  • Strong technical background and understanding of various scientific or engineering disciplines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Attention to detail and strong analytical skills.

Education:

  • A Bachelor's degree in a scientific or engineering field is required.

Certifications:

  • Registration to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is required.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in conducting patent searches using databases and search tools.
  • Ability to draft clear and concise patent applications and responses to Office Actions.
  • Familiarity with patent prosecution procedures and USPTO rules and regulations.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage patent portfolios and deadlines effectively.
