Google Requests Re-Examination of Patents amidst Lawsuit

Last year, Oracle, a software company, sued the search-engine giant Google for patent and copyright infringement, claiming that Google's use of Java in its Android operating system was an infringement.

Now, in attempt to diffuse Oracle's argument, Google is requesting that the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office re-examine several of Oracle's patents. The average length of a re-examination, according to the USPTO, is around 26 months.

Scott Daniels, a partner at the D.C.-firm Westerman, Hattori, Daniels, and Adrian, says that should Google request a stay, a more than two-year delay would likely happen.
