Attorney Gets 5 Years Probation for Stealing From 94-Year Old


Jeffery Elverman, a 52 year old lawyer who used to work for Quarles & Brady was sentenced last week to five years probation and seven months in jail for stealing from one of his elderly clients. Dorothy Phinney, a 94-year old woman who lives in a nursing home was robbed of over $370,000 over a period of 12 years by Elverman when he was appointed to handle her financial affairs. Elverman will now have to pay $1,400 every month as restitution and $2,000 every month next year. By 2014, he will have to $3,000 every month. Phinney’s guardian is also suing Elverman for $600,000 of other missing funds from her estate.
