Daniel Bromberg, Former Deputy Legal Affairs Secretary to California Governor Gavin Newsom and Noted Appellate Lawyer, to Lead Pillsbury’s Firmwide Appellate Practice
Pillsbury has recruited Daniel Bromberg to join the firm as partner in San Francisco. Bromberg, who will lead Pillsbury’s firmwide appellate practice, most recently served as a Deputy Legal Affairs Secretary to California Governor Gavin Newsom. Prior to his government service, he spent nearly three decades in private practice at Quinn Emanuel—where Bromberg was a founding member of the appellate practice—and Jones Day

During his tenure as a Deputy Legal Affairs Secretary to Governor Newsom, Bromberg advised the governor on a variety of key issues, supervising the chief counsels for the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection agencies as well as overseeing litigation involving the border wall, high-speed rail funding, federal environmental rules and the constitutionality of California’s COVID-19 restrictions. In private practice, he has briefed more than one hundred cases, presenting arguments before the U.S. Supreme Court, and other appellate courts in California and across the country.

Pillsbury’s litigation practice has grown significantly in 2021. To date this year, the firm has added former federal prosecutor Kimberly Jaimez in Los Angeles, oil and gas litigation partners Tony Guerino and Liz Klingensmith in Houston, international arbitration partner Derek Soller in New York, complex commercial litigator partners William Bosch and retired Judge James Catterson in DC and New York, and former Associate Deputy Attorney General and white collar and internal investigations partner Patrick Hovakimian in New York.
The San Francisco office has also grown significantly over the last several years despite the challenges of the pandemic. In addition to Bromberg, recent hires in San Francisco include energy and infrastructure finance partner Robert Nelson, insolvency and restructuring partner Joshua Morse and special counsel Jonathan Doolittle, intellectual property partners Chris Kao and David Tsai, and executive compensation and benefits partner Jonathan Ocker.
