Am Law 100 2012: Firms post modest increases in all major metrics, DLA Piper gets number one spot

The Am Law 100 2013 report is out, and the report shows that on most major metrics, the Am Law firms posted modest increases. The total revenue earned by these 100 law firms increased by 3.4 percent ($2.43 billion) to reach $73.4 billion in 2012.

Other encouraging signs – profits per partner went up by 4.2 percent, reaching an average of $1.47 million. The net income (amount left for equity partners after all expenses) for these firms was also up by 4.2 percent, reaching an average of $28.2 million.

In terms of the coveted number one spot is DLA Piper, a ranking that it has achieved for the first time. The firm is already number one in terms of headcount. The firm recorded revenue of $2.44 billion. Baker & McKenzie
fell to second place this year with a revenue of $2.31 billion with Latham coming in third ($2.22 billion) and Skadden at fourth place with $2.21 billion in revenue.
