Hersch joins JPMorgan Chase
The co-head of the mergers and acquisitions practice at Davis Polk & Wardwell, Dennis Hersch, is leaving to become global chairman of the M&A department of JPMorgan Chase & Co. in January. Hersch will work closely with Robert Kindler, a former Cravath Swaine & Moore M&A partner who left that firm in 2000 to join the pre-merger Chase Manhattan Bank. New York Law Journal
Merchant & Gould and Welsh & Katz merge to focus exclusively on IP law
Minneapolis-based Merchant & Gould and Chicago-based Welsh & Katz are merging to create a 160-lawyer intellectual property firm, effective January 1, 2006. The combined firm, Merchant Gould Welsh & Katz, will have more than 160 attorneys focused exclusively on IP law. Law.com
Bryan Cave adds eight attorneys to expand international trade practice

Duane Morris hires director of legal recruitment
Duane Morris has hired Randy Shoenfeld as its firmwide director of legal recruitment. Shoenfeld previously worked for recruiting firm Major Lindsey & Africa and will reside in Duane Morris' New York office. In addition, Duane Morris has created a new position of pro bono counsel, which will be held by former associate of the firm, Nicole Friant. Firm Press Release
Skadden Arps gains partner from Linklaters
Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom has gained a partner in its Hong Kong office from Linklaters. Dominic Tsun is joining as the second partner in Skadden's Hong Kong office and co-head of the office's new corporate finance and M&A practice. The firm recently hired eight other lawyers for the new practice group, bringing the firm's Hong Kong office to 25 lawyers.

Orrick Herrington forms partnership with Williams Lea
Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe has formed a partnership with Williams Lea, a U.K.-based company specializing in outsourcing administrative functions for professional service firms. Under a deal that becomes effective November 14, Orrick's document-services workers at its Global Operations Center in Wheeling, WV, will become employees of Williams Lea, while Orrick will continue to provide support services in the areas of technology, finance, human resources, Web engineering, benefits, payroll, and marketing. Orrick and Williams Lea will work together on marketing outsourcing services to other law firms. The Lawyer
