Gunster Adds Depth to Environment and Land Use Practice with Addition of Former St. Johns River Water Management District Attorney Eric Olsen

Gunster, one of Florida’s oldest and largest full-service business law firms, today announced that Eric Olsen is joining the firm’s Environment and Land Use practice as a shareholder in its Tallahassee office.

Olsen is a former in-house attorney with the St. Johns River Water Management District and brings decades of experience in wetland regulation, mitigation banking, stormwater regulation, consumptive use or water use permitting, water supply and underground injection control.  Prior to entering private practice, Olsen worked with other water management districts throughout the state to develop the Environmental Resource Permitting program, statutes and rules governing wetland mitigation banks, and rules and policies affecting water supply and water use. He was also involved in evaluating permit applications and resolving enforcement issues.

At Gunster, Olsen’s practice will remain focused on working with large landowners, commercial property developers and other businesses on environmental law matters. He will also continue representing industry associations and regulated entities before the Florida Legislature and federal and state regulatory agencies, with the goal of keeping laws and rules reasonable while obtaining permits and other authorizations in a timely, cost-efficient manner. Olsen is recognized for his ability to develop innovative approaches to regulatory problems that not only meet client needs and mandatory agency requirements, but also are designed to be practical for his clients’ day-to day-operations and long- and short-term development strategies.

“As someone who has personally been involved in creating programs and regulations for water and wetlands, Eric brings incredibly unique knowledge and experience to our firm,” said Bill Perry, managing shareholder of Gunster. “Working alongside our already robust and sought-after team of environment and land use attorneys, Eric will be instrumental in helping our clients navigate our state’s water and wetland regulations.”

A Florida native, Olsen earned his J.D. from the University of Florida Law School and a bachelor’s from Clemson.
