Kirkland Adds Asset Management M&A Partner Bradley Friedman

Kirkland & Ellis is excited to announce that Bradley Friedman has joined the Firm’s New York office as a partner. His practice focuses on the increasingly specialized and rapidly growing area of mergers and acquisitions involving asset managers and other financial services firms, as well as sales of GP interests.

“Brad is among the most experienced lawyers in the country for asset management M&A and sales of GP interests — areas where we see strong growth as the private equity industry continues to evolve,” said Jon A. Ballis, Chairman of Kirkland’s Executive Committee. “Having the largest private equity practice gives us great visibility into where the market is heading, and allows us to continue attracting exceptional lawyers like Brad in areas of strategic importance for our clients. We’re thrilled to welcome him to Kirkland.”

Mr. Friedman brings 15 years of experience and will work closely with Kirkland’s premier investment funds and M&A practice groups, bolstering the Firm’s capabilities in the asset management M&A space. He joins Kirkland from the New York office of Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP, and holds degrees from Georgetown University Law Center and Duke University.

“We’ve known Brad for years and have always been impressed by his work, and it’s exciting to bring him on board now,” said Daniel Lavon-Krein, a partner in Kirkland’s Investment Funds Group in New York. “We continue to see heightened interest by fund sponsors for asset management deals, GP stakes and other fund-level transactions, and Brad’s expertise and experience will help us meet this increased demand.”

Kirkland is a market-leader in asset management M&A, and at the forefront of advising clients on strategic GP advisory matters, including minority stake transactions and internal restructurings. The Firm was ranked first by Refinitiv for global asset management transactions by deal count in 2020, and has completed more than 80 minority investment transactions in private equity sponsors, including some of the largest transactions completed to date.

“Kirkland offers the most dynamic global private equity platform available. The Firm is always on the cutting-edge and has an incredible team-first culture, and presented a really exciting opportunity for my practice,” said Mr. Friedman.

Kirkland has the largest and most active private equity practice in the world, serving more than 500 private equity sponsors and generating the largest deal flow of any law firm. Kirkland has continually ranked first among legal advisors both for number of private equity buyouts and fund formations.
