This candidate is originally from the East Coast, and had joined the Marine Corps out of high school - where he earned many honors and awards for his service. After the culmination of this role, he completed his undergraduate degree in Political Science with an eye toward attending law school. He was admitted to a top 50 school out East, where he performed very well and was a member of his school's Law Review. He also acted as a law clerk with a local law firm during the summer after his 2L year, and was an intern with the firm he eventually joined for almost two years during law school.

Upon graduation, this candidate joined this firm with which he had interned - a real estate and business transactions-focused law firm - as an associate. The firm subsequently merged with a U.S. News & World Report-ranked firm, and the sophistication of the transactions on which this candidate worked continued to increase over time. This candidate practiced exclusively in real estate transactions, with typical deal size ranging from $3M to $65M. His experience included representing buyers, sellers, lenders, borrowers, lessors and lessees in the conveyance, financing and leasing of real estate. He served as lead counsel on commercial acquisitions, including drafting and negotiating a purchase and sale agreement, conducting legal due diligence, title and survey review, review and negotiation of loan documents, and closing. He remained with his initial firm group (including through a merger) for over four years.

This candidate came to BCG after he had made a decision to move to Denver, Colorado for personal reasons. Not yet being barred in the state, he had independently found a position through contacts out East working remotely full-time with a boutique real estate, real estate finance, and business transactions law firm started by a former biglaw partner. He continued to represent institutional lenders in loan originations secured by commercial real estate, conducting legal due diligence, title, and survey review, and resolving property/deal specific issues for transactions ranging from $10 million to $85 million. He enjoyed this work and the firm, but after finally receiving his licensure in Colorado, desired to find a long-term firm home based in the area.

Positively for this candidate, there was an incredibly high demand for transactional and real estate expertise in the Denver market at the time he was looking. Many large and nationally-ranked firms were performing sophisticated work and seeking mid-level candidates who could join their teams and hit the ground running. Despite this candidate's professional history outside of the biglaw space and rather with more boutique, regional firms (including a full-time remote position for over a year), BCG was able to compellingly convey the level of complexity of his experience and the value he would bring to the table in Denver. This candidate's personal history and experience in the Marine Corps was also a highly valuable trait, evidencing his work ethic and spirit of dedication to all endeavors.

This candidate ended up receiving multiple interviews with the Denver offices of national firms. He found one particular team to feel like the perfect fit, and the firm's group felt the same way. He was honored to receive a highly competitive offer, which he accepted. We were very glad to work with this individual!
