Rising Corporate Needs and Funding Make Texas a Promising Option for Legal Jobs, BCG Attorney Search Finds 200 Attorney Jobs in Texas

June 5, 2013

Pasadena, CA - Legal recruiters at BCG Attorney Search report creation of 205 additional legal jobs in Texas in Q1 2013. With corporate hiring needs in Texas nearing 2006 and 2007 levels, the state is moving towards recruiting more partners and associates. The partner movement is spurring up in Texas as many firms have fared better than others through the recession. The government is also making efforts like the House Bill 1445 to ensure lawfulness through funds raised in the form of civil penalties and civil restitution that will be devoted to legal aid for indigent Texans.

Increased hiring and the creation of aid to fight lawful battles are giving the required impetus to law candidates to foray into Texas. Suzanne Dupree Howe, Esq., Managing Director of BCG says, “out-of-state transactional candidates find little barrier to entry in Texas as long as they have strong credentials.” Litigation candidates may be less competitive without the Texas Bar, she adds, but that has not hindered candidates from getting the needed accreditation for being hired. Though there is a strong preference in hiring local candidates, outsiders like Litigation Attorney R. Jordan Riley have returned to practice in Texas. Riley has been recently hired by Vernier & Associates PLLC.

Law firms like Munck Wilson Mandala are raising the bar for legal careers. Munck has hired substantially this year too, adding to their legal staff of 64 members. Likewise, the most recent U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data notes that legal services jobs in the Dallas-Irving-Plano metro area have returned to pre-Great Recession levels, with 1,100 more people – mostly lawyers being hired in the industry than in 2011.

The Perryman Group study on economic impact of the legal aid delivery system in Texas, commissioned by the Texas Access to Justice Foundation, also reveals that presently the legal aid services are accelerating the Texas economy. Each dollar spent in Texas for indigent civil legal services is resulting in more than USD 7 in overall economic gains, affirms the study.
