Perkins Coie announced the addition of two litigators to their Environment, Energy & Resources (EER) practice. Andrew C. Hanson will join the Madison office and Bradley H. Oliphant will be with the Denver office. Both are former trial attorneys for the U.S. Department of Justice.

EER practice chair Karen McGaffey said, “Andrew and Brad add to our existing bench of former DOJ and EPA attorneys, strengthening our ability to help clients manage complex government processes involving energy and infrastructure projects, and enforcement matters. We are focused on providing clients with practical and creative business solutions, and Andrew’s in-house experience and deep industry knowledge also fits well with our approach.”

Hanson comes to Perkins Coie with experience as an attorney with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Alliant Energy. He was with the DOJ’s Environment and Natural Resources Division from 2008 to 2015. He then took a position with Alliant Energy Corporate Services as a senior attorney. Hanson earned his J.D. from Lewis and Clark Law School and his B.S. from the University of Michigan.

Madison Managing Partner Michelle Umberger said, “Andrew’s government experience is a true value-add for our clients, and his in-house experience adds a unique perspective to his advice to clients. He’s known as a trusted counselor and colleague, and we’re excited to welcome him to the firm.”

Oliphant was a DOJ Senior Trial Attorney in Washington D.C. and Denver for roughly 10 years. He led the Endangered Species Act litigation resulting from the Central Valley Project in California. He is a three-time John Marshall Award nominee. Oliphant earned his J.D. from Cornell Law School and an A.B. from Harvard University.

Denver Managing Partner Sonny Allison said, “As Denver’s business sector rapidly expands, we’re seeking more energy and environment clients who require guidance on how to navigate federal regulations. Brad’s superlative understanding of the industry and compliance regulations is of great value to our clients in the Denver area as well as nationally.”
