Details
Carey Bertolet is the Managing Director of the New York office. The first BCG office outside of BCG's California headquarters, New York has been a continuous presence in the East Coast under Carey's management.
Carey Bertolet was a commercial litigator and trial lawyer with the law firm of Winstead, Sechrest & Minick, P.C. before joining BCG Attorney Search. She attended Vanderbilt University for her undergraduate degree in English and Political Science, and graduated from Emory University's School of Law as a member of the Order of Barristers.
Carey has extensive experience in lateral partner and associate hiring, both from her enthusiastic work as a legal recruiter, and from having been an active member of the hiring committee at her former firm. She has been responsible for assisting a number of firms establish New York offices, and has had significant success identifying and approaching partners for her clients. Carey has received offers for candidates in a variety of markets, including Boston, Connecticut, Washington, D.C., London and Paris. Carey, who was born and raised on the East Coast, is particularly knowledgeable about the New York City and New Jersey legal markets.
Carey is a frequent writer who regularly contributes to BCG's website and newsletter. She has been recognized as an authority on the New York market, and is frequently contacted to comment on the trends in the legal hiring market.
I cannot thank Carey enough for her dedicated efforts in finding me my dream job. Not only did she place me with a top firm that valued my prior experience and extended me a superbly generous, on-the-spot offer, she invested significant time in matching me with a firm whose culture and personality absolutely paralleled my own. It was very apparent that her assumed role was not simply to find me any available position without regard to my personal needs or interests - it was in all respects a focused effort designed to ensure that I ended up somewhere I could be happy for a very long time.
I cannot say enough about her extensive knowledge of the industry and her commitment to representing my best interests. I came to her after having submitted numerous unsuccessful applications on my own and having neared complete hopelessness. Despite the long list of employers that now would be precluded, Carey was not in the least bit discouraged. She immediately recognized the parts of my application that needed improvement and devoted time to helping me revise my selling points. What is more, she did it with the sort of optimistic enthusiasm that immediately lifted my spirits. In the course of this exercise, I realized that all of the credentials and experience in the world meant nothing unless they were presented in a way that was familiar and compelling to the hiring committee. It was this crucial step in which Carey absolutely excelled.
Overall, Carey was prompt, efficient, organized, and professional. Having had significant contacts with legal employers in her capacity as a recruiter, as well as experience in the field as an attorney in her own right, Carey had a profound inside understanding of the forces driving hiring decisions and the ways in which to put my best foot forward. From suggesting valuable edits to my resume and continuously touching base with employers so as to keep my candidacy alive, to spending time preparing me before my interviews and even checking in on me after I started work, Carey was indispensable at every material stage of my search. Moreover, the comprehensive printed materials she gave me that described how to succeed in interviews were the best I have ever read. In short, Carey did more for me in six weeks than I was able to do for myself in six months.
Although I know that Carey was extremely busy, the attention that she committed to my case made me feel as though I was her only client. Beyond asking about my legal background in our very first conversation, it was clear that she tried to get to know me as a person so as to have a complete image of who I was and where I would succeed. Over the course of my relatively brief search, Carey became both an invested mentor and a valued friend. As a completely unexpected and generous final touch, she even took me out to a wonderful dinner to celebrate my offer. There is just no substitute for that kind of personal attention.
Together with accepting an outstanding offer from an outstanding firm, calling Carey was the best decision that I ever made.
Carey is the first recruiter in my four years of using recruiters who was simply terrific. Her attention to detail is outstanding. She is attentive, informed, honest, and realistic about the market. She is also very accessible and is great at following up. Carey is simply very good at what she does.
My decision to work with Carey and BCG to obtain a lateral associate position was well made. Carey demonstrated a remarkable wealth of knowledge regarding the legal market as well as a tireless effort to help me find the right fit. Moreover, after having received an offer at a top firm, when a client conflict issue arose which could have resulted in the offer being withdrawn, Carey personally helped me work through the issue to successfully resolve it, all the while keeping my spirits up. I could not have asked to work with a better recruiter! C.I.
''Carey is a pleasure to work with.''
Carey, thank you.
I too must tell you that working with you has been such a pleasure. Your professionalism, attentiveness and honesty has been very useful and something I've really appreciated, especially considering my past experience with head hunters. I cannot begin to thank you for all your help and guidance. This experience has been unlike no other and I am confident that [my new firm] is going to be the beginning of a whole new career for me! I have you to thank for that.
My experience with Carey Bertolet was not only professionally rewarding, but personally satisfying for myself and my family. Carey provided timely updates, candid assessments, and only appropriate opportunities during my search. She was always accessible, and delivered a position that has exposed me to colleagues and clients literally across multiple continents. The job search and interview process is always a challenging one, but Carey made it positive and ultimately very successful. I recommend Carey and BCG without hesitation and look forward to extending my relationship with BCG into the ''Hiring Client'' arena!
