My recruiter did a tremendous job placing me at a top law firm. I was looking for a law firm where my tax background would be an immediate asset to the firm's existing client base and where I could also develop an international tax practice. As a full time tax advisor at a Big 4 accounting firm, I did not have the time or resources to keep myself fully aware of every job opportunity. In this respect, my recruiter was a tremendous resource. She listened to my career goals, and presented me with the right opportunities on a timely basis. Given her knowledge of and connections with the legal community, she was able to place me at law firm that is a perfect match for me given my personality and career goals. I think that in particular Carleen was very responsive. She would communicate to me almost on a daily basis any developments. If I had concerns she would usually respond within a few minutes. It was also helpful to me that we did some on the phone interview practice and counseling. I think that made a difference in my interview that ultimately led to me getting the job that I have now. Your recruiter is an absolute professional. He places your career first--regardless of whether he makes a placement. He wants to do what is in your best interest, something that I can't say about other recruiters I have spoken with. Upon meeting him for the first time, he provided insight as to how to make my resume better, and provided an artfully worded cover letter that helped me get several interviews. He worked hard with me to research potential employers, always keeping in mind what I had told him I was looking for. I read Harrison's articles early in my career when I was a junior lawyer in Australia and found them extremely insightful, so please thank him on my behalf. I still periodically check the BCG website for new articles.

When I contacted BCG I said that I wasn't even sure if I wanted to stay in the law. The recruiter I spoke with was very understanding. There was no coercion but she said this is what I have on the table at the moment, these are the firms and this is what they are like. She pointed out that it didn't have to be as it was at my previous firm. My recruiter was very familiar with the Chicago market, she knew lots of information about the firms she suggested to me. The pace was pretty fast, all in all, about 3 weeks from discussion to offer. Ultimately, I took an offer and, at the 6 month point, it's exactly as it was described.
