A law firm in New York City, NY, is seeking a Labor Associate Attorney to join their team. This role primarily involves providing legal advice and counsel to employers on federal and Massachusetts workplace laws. The position may also include conducting due diligence related to workplace law issues in conjunction with acquisitions and mergers. The attorney will be responsible for various aspects of Traditional Labor Relations, including handling unfair labor practice charges, representing management in NLRB elections, advising on collective bargaining agreements, grievance and arbitration proceedings, and providing legal advice on various workplace issues. The ideal candidate will hold a JD from an accredited law school, have at least 5 years of traditional labor law experience, and be admitted to the Massachusetts Bar.

Duties:

  • Provide advice and counsel to employers on federal and Massachusetts workplace laws.
  • Conduct due diligence on workplace law issues in the context of acquisitions and mergers.
  • Handle all facets of Traditional Labor Relations, including NLRB charge handling, research, and writing.
  • Represent management in NLRB elections and provide legal advice on union organizing.
  • Negotiate and/or provide legal advice regarding collective bargaining agreements.
  • Manage grievance, arbitration, and unfair labor practice proceedings.
  • Obtain mass picketing injunctions where necessary.
  • Advise employers on federal and Massachusetts wage and hour issues, leave management, and disability accommodations.
  • Review handbooks, policies, and forms for compliance with federal and state laws.
  • Review compensation, commission, and bonus plans.
  • Conduct management training on labor relations, workplace issues, harassment, discrimination, and retaliation.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in traditional labor law is preferred.
  • Active Massachusetts Bar admission.
  • Understanding of current agency (state and federal) enforcement techniques is preferred.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.
  • May involve regular business travel.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active Massachusetts Bar License.
