Job Overview:
A top-tier law firm is seeking an associate attorney with 1 to 4 years of experience to join its Employee Benefits & Executive Compensation practice group. This role involves advising clients on a wide array of employee benefits and ERISA-related matters, including qualified and nonqualified plans, multiemployer pension plans, and health and welfare benefits. Candidates with experience in M&A or restructuring within this practice area are highly desired. The position offers a collaborative environment and the opportunity to develop expertise in a complex and evolving field.

Location:

  • Houston, TX

Duties:

  • Advise clients on ERISA compliance and qualified plan matters

  • Provide counsel on multiemployer pension plans and health and welfare plans

  • Support due diligence and integration work in M&A and restructuring transactions

  • Assist with ACA compliance and related regulatory issues

  • Draft and review plan documents, amendments, and related disclosures

  • Collaborate with tax, corporate, and labor teams on benefits-related aspects of transactions

Requirements:

  • 1 to 4 years of experience in employee benefits, ERISA, or related legal disciplines

  • Experience with M&A, corporate restructuring, or benefits consulting is preferred

  • Familiarity with the Internal Revenue Code, ACA, HIPAA, and related federal regulations

  • Candidates with backgrounds in tax, accounting, or HR consulting will also be considered

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

  • Strong academic credentials required

Certifications:

  • Admission to the bar in at least one U.S. jurisdiction

Skills:

  • Strong research and analytical skills in complex regulatory environments

  • Effective legal drafting and communication abilities

  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and project management skills

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team

  • Client-focused approach with strong interpersonal and advisory skills
