Job Title: In-House Employment Counsel

Job Overview: A law firm in Raleigh, NC, is seeking an experienced and dynamic In-House Employment Counsel to provide expert legal advice and counsel on various employment matters. The ideal candidate will collaborate with HR colleagues, draft legal documents, conduct research, lead investigations, and ensure compliance with employment laws and Firm policies. They will minimize risks, resolve complex issues, and foster a positive work environment.

Duties:

  • Provide expert legal advice on all aspects of employment law, including hiring, terminations, leaves, accommodations, payroll, benefits compliance, workplace complaints, discrimination, retaliation, and harassment.
  • Collaborate with the HR department to ensure compliance with employment laws and Firm policies, offering high-level advice and support.
  • Draft and review employment contracts, personnel agreements, and other legal documents.
  • Maintain and update personnel policies, implementing best practices based on current law and firm initiatives.
  • Conduct legal research and stay abreast of developments in employment laws and regulations.
  • Lead or assist with HR-related investigations, maintaining confidentiality and integrity.
  • Liaise with outside counsel on employment-related litigation and disputes as needed.
  • Develop and implement legal strategies to minimize risk and ensure global compliance.
  • Train management and staff on employment law matters, promoting awareness and understanding.

Requirements:

  • Hold a law degree and be admitted to practice law in North Carolina.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience practicing employment law.
  • Strong drafting skills and ability to provide clear and commercial advice on complex issues.
  • A meticulous approach to maintaining accurate records and delivering advice.
  • Ability to influence and liaise with legal and support staff at all levels.
  • Proficiency in IT applications and web-based research.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and travel as needed.
