A law firm is seeking an Employment Associate Attorney in Portland, OR. The ideal candidate will be responsible for:

Job Overview:

  • Provide daily counseling of HR professionals and organizational leaders on federal and state wage/hour issues, leave law compliance, disability accommodation, and discrimination and retaliation issues.
  • Offer strategic thinking to avoid and resolve employment disputes.
  • Draft policies, handbooks, and employment-related agreements.
  • Be prepared to handle pending cases and immediate client needs.

Duties:

  • Counsel HR professionals and organizational leaders on employment law matters.
  • Draft policies, handbooks, and employment-related agreements.
  • Handle pending cases and immediate client needs.
  • Provide strategic thinking to avoid and resolve employment disputes.
  • Conduct legal research on federal and state employment laws.
  • Prepare legal documents and correspondence.
  • Represent clients in administrative proceedings and hearings.
  • Attend client meetings and court appearances as required.
  • Collaborate with other attorneys and staff members on case strategies.

Requirements:

  • Active Oregon State Bar membership or ability to obtain it expeditiously through reciprocity.
  • 3+ years of experience specializing in employment law advice.
  • Experience with labor law is a plus.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as well as independently.
  • Capability to work in a small team environment where all contributions are respected.
  • Ability to handle multiple matters simultaneously to meet client demands.
  • Excellent research, writing, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Education and Certifications:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership in the Oregon State Bar or the ability to obtain it expeditiously through reciprocity.

Skills:

  • Strong understanding of federal and state employment laws.
  • Excellent legal research and writing skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and legal research tools.
