Lewis Brisbois Expands Marine & Energy, Transportation, and Insurance Capabilities in New Orleans with New Partner Hire
Lewis Brisbois is pleased to welcome Iliaura ("Ili") Hands to its New Orleans office as a partner in its Marine & Energy, Insurance Coverage, Bad Faith Litigation, and Transportation Law Practices. Ms. Hands brings to Lewis Brisbois more than two decades of complex litigation experience in areas such as general liability, subrogation, bad faith, maritime, energy, and trucking. She has extensive court and alternative dispute resolution experience at the state and federal levels, including representing a number of “Write Your Own” insurance carriers under FEMA's National Flood Insurance Program.

Similarly, in describing her decision to join Lewis Brisbois, Ms. Hands noted that she was looking forward to having the benefit of a nationwide platform. "I was attracted to the broad areas of the firm's practice. A large firm with offices around the country can provide the type of support that I've not experienced before. I am looking forward to this change of pace and to working with my colleagues across the country."
Outside her practice, Ms. Hands has been a long-time member of the Women’s International Shipping & Trading Association, the Maritime Law Association, the Southeastern Admiralty Law Institute, and the Transportation Lawyers Association. She has also presented and published articles on issues involving transportation and admiralty law.
Ms. Hands earned law degrees in Venezuela and the United States from Universidad del Zulia and Loyola University, respectively. She also earned an L.L.M. in Admiralty from Tulane Law School and an L.L.M. in Comparative Law from the University of Miami School of Law. Ms. Hands is admitted to practice in state and federal courts in Florida, Texas, and Louisiana.
