The U.S. Senate confirmed former Knobbe Martens partner John Holcomb to serve as a federal judge for the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. Holcomb was nominated by President Donald Trump in September 2019 to fill a seat vacated in 2016 by Judge Dean Pregerson’s move to senior status.

Holcomb’s career at Knobbe Martens began in 1997 and spanned 21 years, during which he successfully litigated and negotiated for major clients in patent, copyright and trade secret disputes. A former U.S. Naval officer, he became known for his ability to handle exceptionally difficult and unusual cases, employing his diverse skills, laser-sharp focus and problem-solving abilities to obtain the most favorable outcome for clients. Holcomb has argued before the Central and Southern Districts of California, the San Diego County Superior Court, the Delaware Chancery Court, the Delaware Supreme Court, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

Holcomb graduated cum laude from Harvard Law School and also holds an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School. He earned his undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Among other accolades, Super Lawyers magazine has regularly recognized Holcomb as a “Southern California Super Lawyer” for his prowess in intellectual property litigation.

Knobbe Martens congratulates John on his most recent accomplishment. He is a wonderful addition to the Federal Bench.
