Job Overview:
A leading intellectual property law firm is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Patent Attorney to join its Chemistry & Life Sciences Patent Prosecution team. This full-time position focuses on cutting-edge innovations at the intersection of software and biology, with a particular emphasis on bioinformatics, computational biology, and artificial intelligence. The role is ideal for candidates with advanced scientific training and several years of experience in patent prosecution.

Location:

  • Atlanta, GA

Duties:

  • Draft and prosecute patent applications related to bioinformatics, AI, and computational biology

  • Conduct prior art searches and patentability analyses

  • Advise clients on intellectual property strategy and portfolio management

  • Prepare responses to USPTO office actions

  • Collaborate with scientists, inventors, and in-house counsel on innovations at the intersection of life sciences and technology

  • Review technical disclosures and provide strategic IP guidance

Requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in patent prosecution in the life sciences or related technology fields

  • Deep familiarity with technologies related to bioinformatics, computational biology, and artificial intelligence

  • Excellent analytical, writing, and verbal communication skills

  • Strong attention to detail and proficiency in technical writing

  • Writing samples and academic transcripts will be required

Education:

  • Advanced degree (MS or PhD preferred) in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Artificial Intelligence, or a closely related discipline

Certifications:

  • Registration with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) required

  • For attorney candidates: active license to practice law in the state corresponding to the primary office location

Skills:

  • Expertise in life sciences combined with strong software or algorithmic knowledge

  • Ability to manage a patent portfolio and draft high-quality applications
