Job Overview

A leading U.S. law firm is seeking a Senior Patent Prosecution Associate with expertise in electrical engineering, computer science, or related technologies to join its growing Intellectual Property practice group. The ideal candidate will have at least six years of patent preparation and prosecution experience and a strong background in handling complex technologies such as GPUs, TPUs, neural engines, and robotics circuitry. This position offers leadership responsibilities and the opportunity to mentor junior associates while managing sophisticated patent portfolios for a diverse client base.

Location

Duties

  • Draft and prosecute patent applications for electrical and software-based inventions

  • Handle client communications, ensuring clarity and legal accuracy in all filings

  • Supervise, train, and mentor associates on patent prosecution strategies and standards

  • Manage full patent portfolios, including U.S. and international matters

  • Conduct legal and technical analyses for prior art and patentability assessments

  • Ensure timely and high-quality submissions to the USPTO and international patent offices

Requirements

  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in patent preparation and prosecution

  • Proven ability to handle complex technical subject matter and client portfolios

  • Previous law firm experience with demonstrated leadership capability

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

Education

  • Undergraduate or advanced degree in one of the following:

    • Electrical Engineering

    • Computer Engineering

    • Software Engineering

    • Computer Science

    • Physics

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

Certifications

  • Admission to practice law in the jurisdiction of intended office

  • Active registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)

Skills

  • Advanced technical and legal writing proficiency

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to manage and delegate workflow effectively

  • High attention to detail and client service orientation

  • Familiarity with patent strategies related to:
