A law firm seeks a highly skilled Litigation Associate to join its team in Seattle. This position is ideal for experienced professionals with a strong background in civil litigation and a proven track record in one or more of the following areas: General Litigation Defense, Land Use/Environmental, Transportation/Trucking Defense, or Employment Defense. The role offers a dynamic environment where you will represent clients, develop legal strategies, and manage all aspects of the litigation process, including trial preparation and court representation.

Duties

  • Draft, review, and revise legal documents related to client defense and litigation.
  • Provide expert legal advice to clients on their rights and assist in strategy development.
  • Gather evidence, conduct research, and prepare for trial, including interviews with clients and witnesses.
  • Prepare legal briefs and arguments to effectively present cases in court.
  • Represent clients in court and before administrative agencies, interpreting laws and regulations.
  • Collaborate with experts to prepare opinions, reports, and testimony for litigation purposes.
  • Manage written discovery, depositions, and other litigation-related documentation.
  • Travel as necessary for depositions, court hearings, mediations, and trials.
  • Maintain a minimum of 1,800 billable hours annually.
  • Work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with occasional evening or weekend work.

Requirements

  • At least 4 years of legal or private practice experience in civil litigation.
  • Must be licensed to practice law in Washington State (Oregon and/or Idaho licenses are a plus).
  • Proven ability to bill 1,800 hours annually.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex legal concepts.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under pressure.
  • Experience in one or more of the following practice areas: General Litigation, Defense, Land Use/Environmental, Transportation/Trucking Defense, and Employment Defense.
  • Willingness to travel as required by the case and client needs.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Active Bar membership in Washington State (Oregon and/or Idaho is a plus).

Skills

  • Exceptional legal research and writing skills.
  • Ability to strategize and advocate effectively in court and with clients.
  • Excellent time management skills to meet billable hour requirements and deadlines.
  • Experience with litigation case management, including depositions and trial preparation.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective client and colleague relationships.
