Job Overview:

The Intellectual Property Associate Attorney will primarily focus on patent preparation and prosecution and provide legal counsel on intellectual property matters. The role involves working closely with team attorneys and staff members on IP-related tasks, including patent drafting, patentability analyses, opinion work, agreements, and litigation support.

Duties:

  • Write and file utility and design patent applications
  • Pursue corresponding U.S. and foreign patent protection
  • Conduct freedom-to-operate analyses
  • Write opinions of counsel
  • Collaborate with team attorneys and staff on intellectual property matters
  • Assist in patentability analyses
  • Support in patent prosecution
  • Engage in IP-related agreements
  • Provide support in IP litigation

Requirements:

  • 2-4 years of experience practicing in patent preparation and prosecution
  • Undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, chemical engineering, computer engineering, or similar engineering field
  • Excellent academic credentials
  • Solid work ethic
  • Strong writing and analytical skills

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field (required)
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree (preferred)

Certifications:

  • Admission to the North Carolina Bar or Minneapolis State Bar (required)
  • Admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office, or eligible to sit for the Patent Bar (required)
