Job Overview:

A leading law firm with a nationally recognized Private Client and Trusts & Estates practice seeks a skilled Associate or Senior Associate to join its International Estate Planning group. The ideal candidate will have a strong background advising high-net-worth individuals and multinational families on cross-border estate, tax, and trust planning matters. This role offers a flexible hybrid work arrangement and the opportunity to work from any of the firm’s U.S. offices. The position also offers excellent growth potential and the opportunity to work alongside recognized leaders in the field.

Location:

  • Washington, DC

Duties:

  • Advise U.S. and non-U.S. individuals and entities on international estate and tax planning

  • Design and implement wealth management structures that address multi-jurisdictional legal and tax concerns

  • Provide strategic guidance on foreign trusts, pre-immigration and expatriation planning, and cross-border gifting and inheritance matters

  • Advise on U.S. real estate purchases by foreign individuals

  • Support clients with reporting obligations related to foreign accounts, corporations, and trusts

  • Collaborate with attorneys in tax, corporate, and transactional practices on multidisciplinary planning matters

  • Assist multinational families with global wealth transfer strategies and compliance issues

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in international estate planning

  • Demonstrated knowledge of U.S. and international tax and trust law

  • Strong client relationship and professional service skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities

  • Proven ability to work independently and proactively on complex planning matters

  • Collaborative, team-oriented approach to problem-solving

  • Member in good standing of the bar in the jurisdiction of intended practice (required)

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited U.S. law school

Certifications:

  • Active law license in relevant U.S. jurisdiction

  • Certifications in international tax, estate planning, or related specialties are beneficial

Skills:

  • Expertise in international trust and estate structures

  • Familiarity with pre-immigration and expatriation strategies

  • Knowledge of compliance requirements for foreign financial accounts and entities

  • Strong legal research and analytical skills

  • Ability to develop innovative, client-focused planning solutions

  • Experience with high-net-worth and multinational family clients
