Cozen O’Connor Grows Intellectual Property Group in New York with IP Attorney Gregory P. Gulia

Cozen O’Connor continues to expand its New York office located at 3 World Trade Center with the recent hire of Gregory P. Gulia. Previously with Duane Morris, Gulia joins Cozen O’Connor’s Intellectual Property Department in New York City as a shareholder. Gulia is an IP litigator who also counsels clients regarding brand management and increasing their revenue through licensing and sale of IP assets.

“It is thrilling watching the expansion of our New York office as we continue to bring on talented litigators. It’s especially compelling for our clients when we can bring on a talented attorney who has been engaged in landmark trademark and intellectual property cases such as the ones Greg has successfully litigated,” commented Michael C. Schmidt, Cozen O’Connor’s co-office managing partner of the New York office. “Intellectual property disputes affect Cozen O’Connor clients throughout a broad range of industries; bringing on a distinguished and well-regarded litigator who has a reputation for taking a balanced, holistic approach when it comes to a client’s intellectual property — only litigating when necessary — will be a benefit for our clients and reinforce the notion that they have a full team of attorneys and counselors at their disposal.”

“Over the last few years, we have seen numerous headline intellectual property litigation cases at the highest levels in the media and entertainment world,” said Kerry B. McTigue, Cozen O’Connor’s co-chair of the Intellectual Property Department. “With the rise of NFTs and the crossover between new technology and old mediums, we are confident that the addition of Greg will be highly beneficial for Cozen O’Connor clients defending IP portfolios. We are excited to welcome him to the team.”

Gulia has served as trusted counsel advising clients on a broad range of intellectual property, advertising, entertainment, music rights, and data privacy issues and IP licenses, purchases, and consent agreements. He has litigated numerous trademark, copyright, anti-counterfeiting, domain name, unfair competition, trade secrets, rights of publicity and privacy, and First Amendment cases for the world’s largest consumer products companies, various major media corporations, entertainers, luxury goods makers, and fashion companies.

Gulia has counseled several high-profile entertainers, including Janet Jackson and Jimmy Buffett, on intellectual property matters. Gulia successfully litigated a case of first impression for MP3 Tunes regarding licensing fees for music stored in the cloud.

“Joining such a highly regarded team is a tremendous opportunity,” said Gulia. “I am confident that my experience litigating some of the most complex and nuanced intellectual property cases will be beneficial for Cozen O’Connor clients as well as a compelling sector of the law for the foreseeable future.”

Gulia has spoken at leading IP conferences and seminars and authored and co-authored numerous articles on intellectual property that have appeared in various prominent publications including Thomson Reuters Practical Law, AmLaw Daily, and World Trademark Review Yearbook and has been a frequent speaker and distinguished panelist before the New York State Bar Association, New York Law School, New York City Bar Association, and other venues.

Gulia earned his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School, where he received cum laude honors. He graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and served as a Captain in the U.S. Army.
