Curtis Welcomes Donald Hawthorne as Litigation Partner in New York

Curtis announces the appointment of Donald Hawthorne as a Litigation partner in its market-leading disputes practice, effective March 1.

Mr. Hawthorne’s practice complements the international focus of Curtis’ litigation practice in New York. He is a litigator with deep experience leading cases involving complex financial products and practices, and representing clients in antitrust, securities, contract disputes and enforcement actions. He frequently represents Japanese and other international clients in U.S. and transnational litigation.

Mr. Hawthorne has litigated many of the major issues of recent years concerning structured debt, securitized assets, and indenture structures, and frequently serves as an expert witness in disputes concerning structured products. He has led cases involving a wide range of financial products, from auction rate securities and finite reinsurance to RMBS, CMBS, CDS and CLOs. Distressed investors, banks, financial institutions, bond insurers, trustees, and other securitization participants turn to Mr. Hawthorne for representation in disputes involving novel financial legal issues.

Mr. Hawthorne also acts for private equity investors and public companies in securities and M&A litigation, represents parties before the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and leads internal investigations. He has litigated federal, state, and transnational antitrust issues in Federal and State courts and has extensive experience in counseling joint ventures and IP holders in antitrust compliance.

Mr. Hawthorne said, “I am thrilled to join a firm with Curtis’ international reputation. Curtis combines litigation depth and breadth in its New York office and worldwide with excellence in international disputes – a highly appealing combination for my clients. I am excited to join my new colleagues.”

Curtis Chairman George Kahale III commented, “I am very pleased to welcome Don to the firm. His practice complements Curtis’ strengths, and his skills and experience will be a valuable resource for our clients.”

The appointment follows a New Year promotions round of disputes partners in New York, London and Paris.
