Chartan joins the firm from Avantax Wealth Management where he served as vice president and associate general counsel. He also previously served as an assistant district attorney in New York City investigating and prosecuting white-collar criminal cases.

Chartan’s practice combines his former public, private and in-house legal experience focusing on investment adviser and broker-dealer litigation, regulatory enforcement and securities compliance matters, as well as complex internal investigations. He represents broker-dealers, investment advisers, insurance companies, fintech and other market participants in complex, high-stakes securities litigation, arbitration, examinations, investigations and enforcement proceedings involving the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) and state securities agencies.

“I am very excited to be joining BCLP’s top-tier litigation and regulatory enforcement financial services practice group,” Chartan said. “I look forward to working with colleagues across the firm’s global platform to serve clients from both the traditional securities and financial technology areas.”

“Eric’s background and experience will be a tremendous asset to our clients, and we are pleased to welcome him to our firm’s Dallas office,” said Dallas Office Managing Partner Robin Dubas. “Expanding our presence in Dallas is an important component of our global platform and we are committed to growing that presence with high-quality talent like Eric. We are excited about Eric’s arrival and the strategic growth it represents.”

“We look forward to welcoming Eric to our firm,” said Investigations, Financial Regulation & White Collar Practice Group Co-Leader Mark Srere. “His in-house experience will not only enhance our growing investment adviser and broker-dealer regulatory and compliance offerings, it will bolster our fintech compliance and enforcement group.”

“We are excited to welcome Eric to our team and look forward to working with him as our colleague,” said Jeff Kalinowski. “Our investment adviser and broker-dealer clients will greatly benefit from his in-house experience, as well as his experience in private practice and as a prosecutor.
