A law firm seeks a seasoned attorney to serve as Senior In-House Counsel in San Diego, CA. This role provides comprehensive legal support across firm operations, with particular emphasis on ethics, employment matters, contract oversight, and regulatory compliance. The position includes a benefits package featuring medical, dental, vision, 401(k), childcare reimbursement, and paid parental leave.

Duties

  • Advise leadership on professional responsibility issues, conflicts of interest, and adherence to bar regulations

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of agreements, including vendor contracts, NDA’s, and consulting arrangements

  • Counsel on employment-related matters such as hiring protocols, wage and hour compliance, employee relations, workplace investigations, leaves of absence, and policy drafting

  • Develop and maintain internal policies to ensure legal and regulatory conformity throughout the firm

  • Lead internal audits, risk assessments, and investigations of potential ethical or compliance concerns

  • Track and interpret evolving legal and regulatory developments, briefing firm leadership on their implications

  • Collaborate with HR, operations, and executive teams to resolve internal issues in accordance with applicable law

  • Coordinate with outside counsel when specialized expertise or additional resources are needed

  • Support special projects and strategic initiatives as assigned by firm leadership

Requirements

  • Minimum of seven years practicing in a legal or compliance capacity, ideally within a law firm or professional services environment

  • Proven background in legal ethics, employment law, contract negotiation, and compliance oversight

  • Demonstrated ability to balance legal risk against organizational objectives in a fast-paced setting

  • Strong analytical thinking, sound judgment, and capacity to work independently

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school

Certifications

  • Active membership in the California State Bar (or ability to obtain admission promptly)

  • Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional (CCEP) or equivalent compliance credential (preferred)

Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities

  • Sharp attention to detail and strong organizational skills

  • Proficiency with legal technology platforms and compliance tracking tools (preferred)

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and outside counsel

  • Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to ethical practice
