Job Overview

An established law firm seeks an experienced ERISA/Employee Benefits Partner Attorney to join its Employment and Labor Practice in Michigan or Chicago, IL. This role involves overseeing the design, implementation, and administration of employee benefits and executive compensation plans, focusing on health and welfare benefits, compliance with federal regulations, and client advising on employee benefits law. Ideal candidates bring extensive knowledge in benefits law and a commitment to client service.

Duties

  • Oversee the design, implementation, and administration of employee benefit plans and executive compensation arrangements
  • Advise on the structuring and compliance of health and welfare benefit plans, including self-funded and fully-insured plans, cafeteria plans, and VEBAs
  • Provide legal guidance on regulatory compliance with ERISA, IRC, HIPAA, PPACA, FMLA, and COBRA
  • Draft and negotiate plan documents, policies, and agreements for various benefit programs
  • Collaborate with the Employment and Labor team to ensure comprehensive client support in benefits and risk management
  • Participate in business development and client relationship building (a portable book of business is a plus but not required)

Requirements

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in ERISA and employee benefits law, with a focus on health and welfare benefits
  • Extensive experience advising on laws and regulations relevant to employee benefits
  • Strong skills in contract drafting, regulatory analysis, and problem-solving

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

Certifications

  • Licensed Attorney in good standing in Michigan or Illinois, or eligible for admission by examination or waiver
