Tax & Benefits Associate – Energy Transactions (Mid- to Senior-Level)

Job Overview:
A law firm based in Atlanta, GA is seeking a seasoned Associate Attorney to join its tax-focused legal team with a specialization in energy-sector transactions. The role involves advising clients on complex tax implications of renewable energy investments, including structured financings, mergers, and acquisitions. The position provides the opportunity to work with a collaborative national practice group and engage directly with high-profile energy clients.

Duties:

  • Advise on tax aspects of renewable energy projects, including solar, wind, battery storage, and carbon capture developments

  • Support structured financing transactions involving tax equity investors and lenders

  • Counsel project sponsors and utilities—both regulated and unregulated—on energy-related tax matters

  • Draft partnership agreements and provide tax-related legal opinions

  • Collaborate with deal teams across the firm to support M&A and financing deals

  • Interact directly with clients and maintain firm-wide relationships across practice groups

  • Participate in legal research, client presentations, and internal training initiatives

  • Contribute to the firm's thought leadership via publications and speaking engagements

Requirements:

  • 5–8 years of relevant legal experience in a transactional tax environment

  • Demonstrated expertise in tax equity structures and renewable energy tax credits

  • Familiarity with partnerships, financing structures, and utilities regulation

  • Strong legal drafting and analytical abilities

  • Admitted to the bar and in good standing in the state of Georgia

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited U.S. law school

  • Strong academic record preferred

Certifications:

  • Active Bar membership in Georgia required

Skills:

  • Deep understanding of tax implications in the renewable energy sector

  • Proficiency in transactional drafting and structuring
