Job Overview

A leading national law firm is seeking a skilled Patent Agent with at least two years of experience in patent drafting and prosecution. This role offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technologies across industries including medical devices, electronics, and software. Candidates will collaborate closely with attorneys and clients in a dynamic, team-oriented environment. 

Location

  • Charlotte, NC

Duties

  • Draft and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications

  • Build and manage patent portfolios for a variety of clients and technologies

  • Conduct due diligence investigations related to patent portfolios and transactions

  • Perform freedom-to-operate and patent landscape analyses

  • Collaborate with attorneys and clients to develop intellectual property strategies

  • Support litigation and licensing matters when appropriate

  • Stay up to date on patent law developments and industry trends

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in patent drafting and prosecution

  • Prior work in a law firm or in-house setting preferred

  • Experience working with technologies in industries such as electronics, software, or medical devices

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines

  • Strong client communication and team collaboration skills

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or computer science required

  • Preferred disciplines include mechanical, electrical, or biomedical engineering

Certifications

  • Registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) strongly preferred

Skills

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities

  • Strong technical writing and legal drafting skills

  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to legal and non-legal audiences

  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage competing priorities

  • Proactive and solution-focused approach to IP challenges
