A law firm in New York City is seeking a Mid-level Medical Devices and Mechanical Engineering Patent Prosecution Associate Attorney with a strong background in biomedical or mechanical engineering. The ideal candidate should have a Juris Doctor (JD) degree, admission to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), and a minimum of 3 years of relevant patent preparation and prosecution experience.

 

Duties:

  • Conduct patent prosecution for medical devices and mechanical engineering technologies.
  • Draft and prosecute patent applications, responding to office actions, and providing legal advice on patent-related matters.
  • Conduct patent searches and analyze prior art to support patentability opinions.
  • Collaborate with inventors, engineers, and other legal professionals to understand and protect intellectual property.

 

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Bachelor's degree in biomedical or mechanical engineering; other engineering disciplines with substantial patent experience in medical devices or mechanical products will be considered.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant patent preparation and prosecution experience.

 

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Bachelor's degree in biomedical or mechanical engineering (or related field).

 

Certifications:

Admission to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

 

Skills:

  • Solid understanding of patent law and patent prosecution procedures.
  • High level of academic achievement.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with inventors, engineers, and legal professionals.
  • Previous law firm, engineering, or industry experience is highly desirable.
