Job Overview

A law firm seeks an experienced Of Counsel attorney with a strong background in traditional labor law to join their team in Sacramento, CA. The role involves representing public-sector employers in various labor matters, including collective bargaining and labor negotiations.

Duties

  • Serve as chief negotiator or provide support during collective bargaining and meet-and-confer processes.
  • Represent public employers in unfair labor practice proceedings before relevant state agencies.
  • Handle labor arbitrations, grievances, and disciplinary appeal hearings.
  • Provide day-to-day labor and employment advice on employee relations and policy drafting.
  • Draft, interpret, and negotiate MOUs and labor-related policies.
  • Collaborate with finance professionals on negotiation strategies.
  • Partner on litigation, writs of mandate, and complex advisory matters.
  • Deliver training on labor relations and employment law.
  • Contribute to thought leadership and client development.

Requirements

  • Minimum seven years of legal practice or substantial experience in traditional labor work.
  • Strong understanding of federal or California bargaining laws and related regulations.
  • Proven experience in collective bargaining, contract negotiations, and labor arbitrations.
  • Experience representing or working for public agencies preferred.
  • Excellent legal writing, research, and advocacy skills.
  • Highly professional, responsive, and collaborative with strong client-relations skills.
  • Experience in public safety negotiations and/or with the Fair Labor Standards Act is a plus.

Education

  • J.D. from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Active California Bar membership in good standing.

Skills

  • Strong client-relations and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage complex matters independently.
