Job Overview:
A prominent law firm is seeking an Employee Benefits Associate Attorney with 4–6 years of experience to join its Employment Practices & Benefits Practice Group. The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation in employee benefits law and experience advising both for-profit and nonprofit organizations on compliance, design, and implementation of benefit plans. This is an excellent opportunity for a mid-level associate to expand their expertise in a collaborative environment serving a diverse client base.

Location:

  • Charlotte, NC

Duties:

  • Advise clients on executive compensation arrangements, including nonqualified and equity-based plans

  • Provide counsel on the design, implementation, and compliance of qualified retirement plans

  • Advise on health and welfare benefit plans and related regulatory matters

  • Draft and review plan documents, disclosures, and service agreements

  • Monitor and interpret developments in federal benefits law, including ERISA, the Internal Revenue Code, and ACA regulations

  • Counsel clients on benefits-related matters in corporate transactions

  • Collaborate with attorneys in employment and corporate practice groups on cross-functional legal issues

Requirements:

  • 4–6 years of law firm experience with a focus in employee benefits or executive compensation

  • Familiarity with legal considerations for both nonprofit and for-profit entities

  • Strong command of federal regulations applicable to benefit plans

  • Experience handling compliance and administrative issues related to IRS, DOL, and PBGC regulations

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Active license to practice law in North Carolina (or ability to obtain promptly)

Skills:

  • Strong legal research and writing capabilities

  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail

  • Ability to manage multiple matters and deadlines simultaneously

  • Client-focused mindset and a collaborative working style

  • Proficiency in reviewing technical plan documents and government filings
