K&L Gates Expands Asset Management and Investment Funds Practice with Miami Of Counsel Addition

Global law firm K&L Gates LLP has added Carly E. Howard as of counsel in the asset management and investment funds practice. She joins K&L Gates’ Miami office from her independent consultancy, which she founded in 2017 after practicing with large law firms and financial institutions.

Howard is a corporate, transactional, and asset management lawyer who works with high-net-worth individuals, family offices, and investment funds, including technology-focused investors and entities. Howard primarily advises on blockchain matters involving cryptocurrency (token) law, regulation, and compliance across a range of areas, including tax, banking, international business transactions, and digital privacy. This includes a particular focus on cross-border issues, worldwide regulation, and legal operations for blockchain technology and cryptocurrency, decentralized finance, and financial technology.

Michael Caccese, K&L Gates Chairman and co-leader of the firm’s asset management and investment funds practice area, commented: “Carly will further enhance our global asset management and investment funds practice with her extensive experience counseling on blockchain technology and cryptocurrency, decentralized finance, and other fintech matters. She brings a high level of experience solving complex problems for clients, and she is a great addition to our existing practice in these areas. We are excited to welcome her to the team.”

Howard’s arrival follows the earlier 2022 additions of Cheryl Isaac and former SEC senior counsel Keri Riemer to the asset management and investment funds practice. They are among 130 new partners and of counsel who have joined the firm globally since the beginning of 2020.

“Carly’s experience is truly unique and will enhance the firm’s asset management and investment funds practice as well as its growing cryptocurrency, digital assets, and blockchain practice in Miami and around the globe,” said Steven Weinstein, managing partner of K&L Gates’ Miami office.
