Willkie Adds Trial and Appellate Litigator Donald Burke in Washington

Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP today announced that trial and appellate attorney Donald Burke has joined the Firm’s Washington office where he is a partner in the Litigation Department. Donald was previously a partner at Robbins, Russell, Englert, Orseck & Untereiner. He also previously served as a law clerk to the late Justice Antonin Scalia of the Supreme Court of the United States and to Judge Raymond M. Kethledge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.

“Donald is an experienced litigator with exceptional courtroom skills,” said Tariq Mundiya, Chair of Willkie’s Litigation Department. “He will be a great complement to our global platform, further deepening our bench of talented trial and appellate attorneys.”

Donald’s practice covers a range of trial and appellate litigation, with a particular focus on complex commercial disputes and investment-related matters. He has represented companies and individuals in civil and criminal cases across the country, as well as in investigations by the U.S. Department of Justice and other federal agencies. He has briefed cases for parties and amici curiae in federal and state appellate courts, and in the Supreme Court of the United States on a variety of issues, including federal criminal matters, partnership tax controversies, drug patents, environmental disputes, RICO claims, and the False Claims Act.

Donald commented: “Willkie is well known in the market for its top-notch global litigation platform and trial-ready approach. I’m thrilled to be joining a firm with such a stellar reputation, and I look forward to working with my new colleagues in Washington and across the Firm to support its clients.”

Willkie’s Litigation Department includes approximately 250 lawyers worldwide who represent major U.S. and non-U.S. financial services companies, accounting firms, insurance and reinsurance companies and brokers, media companies, and individuals in complex commercial and class-action litigation. The Department has extensive experience conducting internal corporate investigations and internal corporate matters. In addition, the team regularly represents companies and individuals in investigative and enforcement proceedings brought by federal and state regulatory agencies.
