Former SEC Assistant Chief Litigation Counsel Christian Schultz Joins Arnold & Porter’s Securities Enforcement & Litigation Practice
Arnold & Porter announced today that Christian Schultz has joined the firm’s Securities Enforcement & Litigation practice as a partner, resident in Washington, DC. He has served as Assistant Chief Litigation Counsel of the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for the last 10 years.
Veronica Callahan, chair of Arnold & Porter’s Securities Enforcement & Litigation practice group, said: “Christian is an outstanding litigator who brings valuable trial credentials to our team. His vast knowledge of the SEC’s rules and processes will further strengthen our service offerings for clients facing government investigations, conducting internal investigations, and defending litigation.”
Over the last decade, Mr. Schultz has been responsible for leading litigation on behalf of the SEC in federal courts across the country and in administrative proceedings before the SEC’s Administrative Law Judges. He has extensive experience in high-profile fraud and insider trading litigation; administrative proceedings involving abusive naked short selling, Reg. SHO violations, Ponzi schemes; and sales of unregistered securities and fraud lawsuits. He also has experience in investigations, including broker dealer misconduct, accounting improprieties by US and China-based registrants, and matters involving investment advisor, fund manager, and fund director misconduct.
In joining the firm, Mr. Schultz said: “I am pleased to join Arnold & Porter, given its deep bench of seasoned practitioners in its Securities Enforcement & Litigation practice. I look forward to joining my colleagues in developing innovative solutions for high stakes securities matters.”
Mr. Schultz received his JD from the University of Notre Dame Law School, summa cum laude, where he was awarded The Farabaugh Prize and served as Executive Note Editor of the Notre Dame Law Review. He received his MBA, magna cum laude, from the University of Notre Dame Mendoza School of Business and BA degrees, with honors, from Michigan State University.
Mr. Schultz began his career in private practice. He also served as a law clerk for The Honorable Ann Claire Williams of the US Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.
Mr. Schultz joins Arnold & Porter partners and former SEC colleagues Jane Norberg, who served as Chief of the Office of the Whistleblower from 2016 to 2021, and Daniel Hawke who served as chief of the SEC Division of Enforcement's Market Abuse Unit from 2010 to 2015 and Director of the SEC's Philadelphia Regional office from 2006 to 2014.
