Eversheds Sutherland appoints Andrew Duckworth as Energy Partner
Eversheds Sutherland has appointed Andrew Duckworth as a Partner in its Global Energy practice.
In addition, Andrew will draw on his experience and knowledge of the US market to help create and open up further transatlantic and global opportunities within the sector.
Before moving in-house, Andrew practiced within Reed Smith’s Energy & Natural Resources practice. He will be based in Eversheds Sutherland’s London office.
Also joining Eversheds Sutherland is James Cottrell, who joins the Global Energy Practice as Legal Director, from MFB Solicitors. James worked alongside Andrew at Reed Smith and advises on shipping and supply chain logistic issues, as well as physical energy trading matters.
James Lindop, Partner and Head of Competition, EU & Trade, commented:
“Andrew is a really important and strategic appointment. All major energy and commodities trading clients routinely need support on a variety of transactional and operational matters, trade issues, transportation and shipping concerns, bankruptcy, regulatory and government investigation matters. Espouse this with policy issues associated with evolving market structures implementing derivative reform in Europe, and post-Brexit market developments, it is a huge market facing enormous challenges.
“Andrew’s and James’ arrival sees the team harness new skillsets and experiences, offering clients commercially-oriented, integrated legal advice on commodities trading and related shipping matters with the goal of optimizing overall transaction structures and related legal considerations.”
Rob Pitcher, Co-head of Global Energy, commented:
“London is the primary hub for the movement of energy and other physical commodities, globally. We have found energy clients have an increasing appetite for English-qualified lawyers with in-depth knowledge on the physical trading of energy and other commodities matters. Andrew’s appointment, with James, really bolster our strength and capability, enabling us to offer an even greater, global platform for our clients operating within this sector.”
Andrew Duckworth, commented:
“I am excited to join Eversheds Sutherland’s Energy practice. The global platform offers an excellent opportunity for me to help grow the existing client offering and work alongside excellent colleagues and clients alike. I’m looking forward to further strengthening the capability across the US, UK and Europe and to nurturing and cultivating global opportunities for the firm.”
