Waller strengthens government investigations practice

Waller Lansden Dortch & Davis, LLP today announced a significant addition to its Government Investigations & White-Collar Litigation (GIWC) practice with Kristina Pekkala, a former federal and state prosecutor, joining the firm’s Austin office.

As a proven litigator with experience as both an Assistant United States Attorney and an Assistant District Attorney, Pekkala adds value and depth to Waller’s litigation team representing clients in complex commercial disputes, bankruptcy proceedings and other matters both inside and outside the courtroom.  Pekkala also reinforces Waller’s nationally recognized healthcare government investigations practice as industry scrutiny continues to increase.

“As a former AUSA, Kristina has a solid understanding of the inner workings of the Department of Justice, which gives her great perspective when advising clients facing challenging government enforcement actions,” said Travis Parham, Co-Chair of Waller’s Trial and Appellate practice group. “We are excited to have Kristina join our already deep bench of lawyers skilled in handling such matters, including former AUSAs Bill Athanas and JD Thomas.”

As an Assistant United States Attorney for the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Texas in the Criminal Division, Pekkala successfully investigated and prosecuted hundreds of cases against individuals and organizations.  Pekkala also previously served as an Assistant District Attorney in Montgomery County, Texas where she prosecuted thousands of felony and misdemeanor state offenses.  During her time as a prosecutor, Pekkala has appeared in Federal and State courts and at all stages of criminal litigation, including serving as first-chair counsel for numerous for jury and bench trials.

Pekkala earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin and her law degree from the University of Texas School of Law.
