Akerman LLP announced the addition of Employment Partner Melissa Alguire. Her addition to the firm continues their rapid growth of the Los Angeles office. Alguire will be joining the Labor and Employment Practice Group from Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart. The Labor & Employment group has grown from 21 to 50 lawyers since 2016.

Alguire is the sixth management-side employment lawyer to join Akerman since January. She will focus on employment litigation, emphasizing harassment, discrimination, wrongful termination, wage and hour, retaliation, PAGA issues, and class actions before federal and state courts as well as in arbitration.

Labor & Employment Practice Group chair Eric Gordon said, “We continue to experience high client demand for employment counsel in California, a market that requires creative solutions to navigate its complex regulatory framework. Marissa’s arrival represents a wonderful addition to our capabilities in this space, thanks to her significant litigation and counseling experience involving employers in various sectors, including technology, entertainment, retail, hospitality and healthcare.”

Alguire assists clients with day-to-day advice and counseling on a range of employment issues, including employment policies and procedures, accommodation requirements, internal investigations, wage-and-hour compliance, leaves of absence, employment agreements, reductions in force, discharge and discipline, manager and employee training, and disability access laws.
