Cooley announced the addition of two East Coast-based counsels to their global insurance group. Heidi Lawson, of counsel, and Greg Hoffnagle, special counsel, are joining the firm from Mintz Levin where they were part of the insurance, reinsurance, investigation & risk management practice.
London-based partner and head of the insurance & reinsurance group Mark Everiss said, “Heidi and Greg add another arm and greater depth to our cross-border insurance practice, including in insurtech. It is rare to find such well-developed litigation, regulatory and advisory practices sitting side by side. It’s even rarer to find insurance lawyers who are so focused on Cooley’s client base of young and emerging companies. Heidi and Greg are a perfect fit for the firm, and we’re thrilled to have them on our team.”
Lawson, who will be based in Boston, is a highly regarded insurance lawyer with a strong practice in litigation, regulatory and advisory work. She works with global insurers, capital providers, brokers, insurtech innovators, municipalities, and large and small businesses.
She said, “Greg and I believe it’s critical to be part of a culture and platform that is best suited to serve our unique client set. We’re eager to leverage Cooley’s deep relationships with emerging companies, and we look forward to helping broaden the firm’s overall insurance offering.”
Hoffnagle’s focus will be on complex insurance and reinsurance disputes in addition to international commercial arbitration and litigation. He advises on regulatory and transactional matters, working with insurtech startups, VC firms and insurance carriers to develop innovative products for market. He will be based in New York.
