Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn LLP is moving its Kalamazoo office to 650 Trade Centre Way into the third of the Trade Centre office buildings that have been built in Portage along I-94. Honigman will be the first tenants in the building.

The move will let Honigman gain more space, allowing them to expand their services to the area. The practice areas they plan to expand include private equity, mergers and acquisitions, life sciences, venture capital, litigation, real estate, and intellectual property.

The growing property site has become home to a number of West Michigan’s top businesses, with several planning to open in the other buildings. There is a new Hilton Homewood Suites hotel in the development as well as a Courtyard by Marriott hotel.

Honigman will take over the second floor of the building starting March 1, 2018. Chairman and CEO David Foltyn said, “Honigman recently represented tronc, Inc., the parent company of the Chicago Tribune and the Los Angeles Times, in the highly-publicized acquisition of NY Daily News. This transaction, which was largely executed from our Kalamazoo office, represents the sophisticated work that Phil Torrence, Jonathan O’Brien and our team of experienced lawyers handle for major Kalamazoo-based clients as well as clients across the U.S.”

Kalamazoo office managing partner Phillip D. Torrence added, “Becoming part of this visionary new development further reinforces our commitment to investment and growth in West Michigan. As Kalamazoo’s largest law firm office, this new space will give us the layout we need to grow and serve not only our local clients, but our growing number of clients from major U.S. and global markets. This move is in line with our commitment to our continued growth in Kalamazoo and speaks to the vibrancy of our Kalamazoo-based practices across the life sciences, medical device, finance, and tech sectors.”

In nine years, the firm has grown to have 26 attorneys and 55 professionals working in the office.
