Latham & Watkins Opening Office in Century City


The law firm of Latham & Watkins announced via a press release that it has added six entertainment, sports and media partners to the firm as it opens an office in Century City.

Jim Beaubien, the managing partner of the firm’s Los Angeles office, said, “Opening in Century City is another major milestone in our history, rooted in the city of our founding and also representing a significant development for our local and global practice.”

Century City is located in the heart of the Los Angeles sports and entertainment industry. Robert M. Dell, the chair and managing partner of the firm, said, “This is a closely knit group of collegial partners who are at the very top of their field. Their experience, combined with Latham’s global reach and resources, makes for a very compelling offer to clients. Our firm was established in Los Angeles 80 years ago and has grown into a truly global enterprise. It also represents a significant development for our London practice.”

Five partners will join the law firm in Los Angeles from O’Melveny & Myers LLP and one partner will join the London office of the firm.

Latham & Watkins Opening Office in Century City


The Century City partners include Christopher Brearton, Joseph Calabrese, Robert Haymer, Kenneth Deutsch and Nancy Bruington. Lisbeth Savill will work in the London office.

Calabrese will serve as the chair of the firm’s Entertainment, Sports and Media Practice Group. He said the following in the release:

“Combining our expertise and industry connections with the vast resources of Latham & Watkins creates a powerful combination to meet growing demands in the market for high-level advice on a local, national and global scale. Evolving technologies, new investors and financial models, and an ever-expanding demand for content have driven remarkable changes in entertainment, sports and media.”

The partners will handle complex distribution and licensing agreements, joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions and financial transactions for sports franchises, owners, independent studios, major studios, media and entertainment companies, private equity firms, hedge funds and investment banks.

“We have always been active in these areas but the team joining Latham instantly takes our practice to the highest levels,” Beaubien said.
