DLA Piper
to Open Office in Mexico

DLA Piper is setting up shop in Mexico City, Mexico. The law firm is going to have a 14-lawyer office in the Mexican capital and it will be staffed by a team from Thompson & Knight, a Texas law firm. Thompson & Knight already has an office in Mexico City and the entire staff from there is expected to move to DLA Piper. After the departure of its staff, Thompson & Knight will continue to have an office in the city of Monterrey, Mexico.

Terry O'Malley, co-chairman of DLA Piper, said that the new office was part of the firm's expansion in Latin America. The firm is planning on serving private and public companies and also the Mexican government. The focus will be on providing services in corporate, securities, real estate and infrastructure law.

Frank Burch who is global co-chair at DLA Piper said "As we continue to expand our presence in Latin America, this is an important market for us. Many of our clients have major operations in Mexico, while many others do significant business there so this is a natural fit with plenty of opportunities for growth."

DLA Piper already has offices in Caracas, Venezuela and São Paulo, Brazil. DLA Piper is one of the last of the major law firms to open an office in Mexico.
