UK Firm Loses First Copyright Case
ACS Law, a UK law firm who become known for their threatening letters to alleged illegal downloaders, lost their first of eight pending lawsuits.
Judge Birss ruled that persons running an unsecured Wi-Fi router should not be accountable for others downloading copyrighted materials via their connection.
Birss asserted that ACS Law's plea, ''that 'allowing' others to infringe is itself an act restricted by s16 (1)(a) and 17 of the 1988 Act is simply wrong.”
