DLA Takes Charge of Milan Property Boutique
International Firm DLA Piper
has merged with Apollo & Associati in a move to bolster its Milan real estate practice. The four lawyer group, which includes founding partner Davide Appollo, will join DLA Piper at the start of the year. DLA Italy managing partner, Federico Sutti, has said he would look out for more hiring opportunities for their growth strategy in Italy.

Orrick Freezes Associate Salaries
Following Latham & Watkins and Dorsey & Whitney, Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe announced that nearly 670 associate salaries would be frozen due to the ''challenging business environment.'' Associates in the US, Europe, and Asia will receive the same salary in 2009 as they did this year, according to a memo distributed on Monday. The memo didn't refer to what would happen to equity and nonequity partner compensation.

Whiteford Taylor Joins Former Head of U.S. Patent Office
The National Law Journal has reported that Bruce A. Lehman, the former head of the US Patent and Trademark Office during the Clinton administration, has joined Whiteford, Taylor & Preston—an addition that will help clients understand how the intellectual property landscape will change once Barack Obama is president. Lehman will advise clients on domestic and international property law and public policy law.
