Ms. Mills grew up in Pasadena, California, the daughter of an entrepreneur and certified financial analyst. She has one sister, who lives in France.
Seeking a college experience in an historic, walkable city that offered changing seasons as well as a solid liberal arts education, she headed East for college, to Boston College. She earned a spot in the Honors Program and majored in Hispanic Studies. She speaks both Spanish and French.
After spending a year as a paralegal for a Boston law firm that specialized in social security disability cases, Ms. Mills returned to Los Angeles to attend Loyola Law School. She loved the law school experience and excelled at it, graduating magna cum laude and as a member of Order of the Coif. During law school, she served as editor of the Loyola of Los Angeles Law Review and did a judicial externship with United States District Court Magistrate Judge Margaret Ann Nagel.
After law school, Ms. Mills spent four years as a litigation associate in the Los Angeles office of Latham & Watkins. She worked on a host of complex commercial, securities, and white collar litigation matters. In addition to her work for Latham, she spent time working for smaller Los Angeles law firms that specialized in food law and land use and real estate law.
Ms. Mills is married and met her husband during law school. He started his legal career as a litigation associate for White & Case and is now in the process of establishing a solo practice. The couple live in the thriving downtown LA “Arts District” and spend their free time socializing with a large group of friends, visiting galleries and museums, and attending music festivals.
Travel has always been a major part of Ms. Mills’ life, beginning with childhood family trips throughout the world. Among her most memorable journeys are safaris in Zimbabwe and Botswana, white water rafting on the Zambezi River, cruising on the Nile River in Egypt, and diving in the Galapagos Islands. She has visited 38 countries.
After taking the California Bar Examination, Ms. Mills and her husband took a seven-week trip through South America, including a trek to Peru’s famous Machu Picchu citadel and visits to Brazil, Uruguay, and Argentina. The couple recently returned from the El Nido Resorts in the Philippines, which was rated by Conde Nast as among the most beautiful islands in the world.
